World Mini Market - Ball & Knott, Anaheim, CA

I was driving down Knott St. heading to Performance Machine yesterday in the company work van. I didn't notice until it was too late that it was on fumes... just a hundred yards away from this gas station. It started bucking and cutting out but I got lucky and coasted in. I'm not a "run outta fuel" type of guy - I'm on top of my game, dog.

So anyway it was 2pm and I was starving. Bowl of oatmeal in the morning wasn't holding me and I needed something a little more. "Ok I'll check out how worldly this market is," I thought to myself. Maybe I'll find a granola bar or an apple, get my shit done, then get some lunch.
So I walked in and was scouring the place cause you never know what you might find. Then I saw this rack (below) which looked kinda odd. It was like they were selling huge tortillas, like medium/large pizza size with an off color. What the fuck?
Ended up being injera; Ethiopian sour flat bread. I've only had Ethiopian food a couple of times but I knew what this was right when I picked it up. Total surprise. Pretty worldly after all this World Mini Market which is less than 5 minutes from Knott's Berry Farm and maybe 3 up-shifts of your jockey handle to Disney Land. No shit.
I had to ask the tacobilly dude running the counter:

Me: The owner Ethiopian?

Him: (with a surprised look on his face) Yeah...? How'd you know, man?

So every time I hear Ethiopia or eat the food, I'm thinking Rastafari, which brings me to the following track. Lately I prefer Quickness. Listened the shit out of everything they did for the last 25 years already so lately Quickness is in my heavy rotation.

  2. Rosalind's (the bread supplier) is the oldest Ethiopian restaurant that I know of in LA. Had some great meals there back in the 1980's. It's on Fairfax just south of Olympic - great food...
