BUCHANAN'S

After dealing with Buchanan's regularly for the past several years, I finally made my way to Azusa, CA to check the place out. Without any traffic, we got there pretty quickly.
Getting to meet the people I talked to every week was cool, especially after all these years. I'm sure they wanted to see the guy behind all the antics I pull on them. "Hey pardner, I'm a cowboy with a wooden wagon wheel. Got any spokes for me? I just need 3."
You probably want shouldered rims like this because Borrani's have become too expensive or too hard to find. Don't ask me, just call Buchanan's instead. We got to see one of their old frame jigs too, which was mainly what Buchanan's did until orders for spokes and wheels became overwhelming.
This top secret machine (above), punches all the holes into the rim blanks. They own Sun rims, so they make all the rims and poke the holes too. And of course all the spokes for people all over the world.

I've heard so many people complain about Buchanan's over the years, but I can assure you that 99% of the time, its not their fault. Most people don't know what they have in their hands when they call or don't give enough information to have the spokes made correctly... or are just bad at lacing wheels.

So many factors in these precise little parts that make up our wheels. We've had hundreds of orders from overseas for custom spokes, rims and wheels and they all turn out perfect (as long as all the right info is provided).

  1. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I called them yesterday to lace an 18" rim onto my front hub. They seem like good people.
