GOAT'S LEG SOUP

Submitted by Rizky Mandra - Jakarta, Indonesia:

As promised, here is a glimpse of what we Jakartans have as culinary hidden treasure.. Goat's Leg Soup.. Thats just the direct translation of the actual banner / main menu, but they offer EVERY part of a goat for you to choose..
The first thing you do when you get in the place (its a roadside hawker kind of place), is for you to choose what "meat" you want.. You could pick anything you desire from goat's meat, stomach, lungs, leg, ear, eyes, testicles, and even brain..

Once you collect all the bits you wanted, then the seller would diced it up in to bite size pieces and add in a (diced) whole tomato to freshen things up..
After that, the seller would pour in a milk and broth based soup (all the meat etc. are boiled in that broth previously) and add in some salt, pepper, vinegar, scallions, and fried shallots...

Thats how my bowl of dinner looks like. It got a piece of goats leg, lungs, stomach, and 2 piece of intestines. As condiments, that vegetable oil-margarine in the background, and some lime wedges.. Add to taste.. Eat it up with a plate of rice..
There you have it Nelson.. A dish some friend of mine dubbed "the heart attack soup"
Have a pleasant summer holiday..

  3. @Nelson in Indonesia, Cow's Lungs are one main "other-meat" ingredients. we use them in soup, stew, slow cooked, deep-fried with batter then pour in spicy chili, and even made some lung crackers for snacks. some say that cow's lungs are the "healtiest" among other internals. thanks for the post man, glad i could share it here at Pakajunk..
@Jimmy only 2 season in Jakarta, rainy and hot equator summer, both heavily equipped with heavy traffic.. come by on September.. that would be nice.
